Screen story credit for Thor: The Dark World belongs to Robert Rodat (creator of Falling Skies) and the late Don Payne ( Thor), with the script having been co-written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely - the duo that penned Captain America: The First Avenger - and Christopher Yost ( The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes TV series). The latest Dark World footage also suggests that the humor from Taylor's darker and grittier installment actually might feel more organic to the proceedings - compared to the fish-out-of-water comedy in Branagh's film (see: Thor's Indiana Jones-style casual takedown of a massive enemy in the trailer's conclusion). Much has been made when it comes to Taylor's more tangible and grounded approach to constructing the Thor Universe - which features a more even ratio of fantasy sets versus CGI than director Kenneth Branagh's first movie. We learned more about the Thor-Loki dynamic in particular, during our visit to the Thor: The Dark World set. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.Īmong other things, the second Dark World trailer provides a sneak peek at new cast addition Christopher Eccelston's vocal mannerisms as Malekith the Accursed, while teasing the rocky interactions between Loki and his step-brother. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. To refresh your memory, here is the official synopsis for Thor: The Dark World: The newly-released Dark World trailer features some of the material that was shown at Comic-Con, which includes more scenes with the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) reunited with his human love Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), fan-favorite Asgardians like Heimdall (Idris Elba) and Sif (Jaimie Alexander) - and, of course, everyone's favorite trouble-making "god," Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
The Thor sequel was directed by Alan Taylor - a former co-showrunner on HBO's Game of Thrones - and will delve further into the mythology/history of the Nine Realms than its predecessor.
Marvel brought new footage from Thor: The Dark World to the 2013 Comic-Con, in order to keep building hype for the next installment in Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which began with Iron Man 3).
